Lille's Winning Streak Ends in Thrilling Contest
Lille's hopes of extending their winning streak were dashed on Friday as they were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by RC Strasbourg in a pulsating Ligue 1 encounter. Edon Zhegrova was the star of the show for the visitors, netting a magnificent brace to earn Strasbourg a well-deserved point.
The hosts made a blistering start to the match and took the lead in just the 6th minute through Jonathan David. However, Strasbourg responded superbly, with Zhegrova leveling the scores just three minutes later. Lille regained the lead in the 25th minute courtesy of a Timothy Weah strike, but Zhegrova once again had the answer, equalizing for the second time in the 39th minute.
In the second half, Lille continued to push for the winner, but it was Strasbourg who struck next. Ludovic Ajorque put the visitors ahead for the first time in the 63rd minute, only for Angel Gomes to level the scores for Lille five minutes later. Despite both teams pushing for a late winner, the match ultimately ended in a 3-3 draw, leaving both sides to rue missed opportunities.
The result leaves Lille in eighth place in the Ligue 1 standings, while Strasbourg remain in 12th. Lille will be disappointed to have dropped points at home, while Strasbourg will be buoyed by their spirited performance.
Zhegrova's performance was particularly impressive. The Albanian winger was a constant threat to the Lille defense throughout the match, and his two goals were both well-taken. He now has five goals in his last four Ligue 1 appearances.
Lille will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they travel to face OGC Nice next weekend. Strasbourg, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their positive performance when they host Montpellier.
